Simple Skills - Chocolate Puds

Goodhousekeeping SA was having a "Do it Smarter Chocolate Workshop" in Pinelands at the Capsicum Chef Training School and guess who signed up for it??  If you know what I look like then even though I could be mistaken for a puffed up choc pudding, the picture above should answer that question!
We were taught how to make a chocolate pudding, which is perfect for small functions or even just to spoil your loved ones on any occasion as they are quick and easy to prepare.

made by me......
The course was short and sweet and we were even spoilt with a goodie bag packed with............... "goodies" of course!

I am truly grateful, Alhumdulilah, Shukr to Allah!
The next skill I will be attempting to acquire is far from simple, as it is a UCT Internet Marketing course starting on Monday 5 November, and I am fearful, because using my mental ability will be far more challenging than the physical kind. I will keep you posted, Inshaa Allah (God Willing).

If you apply your mind, you can achieve anything but only with the Almighty Allah swt's infinite mercy.

Simple Skills - Elves at work

made by me......
I can hardly believe it myself, yes its me behind a sewing machine. I never thought it was possible since I am one of those individuals who struggle to sew a button onto a garment. I decided to attempt a one day sewing course with "Elves at Work" who promises to teach you to sew in just one day! The class accommodates a maximum of 6 persons and we where we asked to introduce ourselves and briefly elaborate why we were doing the course. My reason being that I wanted to sew my own vests/t-shirts that I wear as undergarments as well as the fact that we have 3 machines at work that is used to manufacture bags, pencil cases etc. and I often looked at the machines and wondered whether I would ever be able to work them.

Well guess what?? I have done it, Alhumdulilah. I bought 1 meter of fabric at Hilite and managed to sew two t-shirts (under-tops as I prefer to call it), 1 long-sleeve and the other sleeveless.

made by me......
We where also shown how to iron on a logo using heat transfer paper, and I added my FAMALLY
logo to the inside of my t-shirt instead of using a stitched on label that irritates the back of my neck.

AND there you have it........made by me! Alhumdulilah, another skill learned in just one day, so whats stopping you?

Simple Skills - Create a Cake

made by me.........
You are never to old to learn! I know it sounds "cliche" but with the tough situations some people are experiencing due to unemployment, job losses etc, I thought learning a skill or two could be beneficial should I ever (Allah forbid) find myself in a similar position one day.

A few days ago I heard that a childhood friend's husband took his own life due to not being able to provide for his family. May Allah swt protect us and grant us understanding. If you have eyesight, limbs, a brain and fair health, you are rich so make use of the Almighty's blessings he has bestowed upon you.

Everyone gets tested in his or her life, and we should try to pass that test with "flying colors" and remember that after difficulty comes ease. Turn to your maker as he will never forsake you. May Allah swt fill our hearts with takwah and emaan, Inshaa Allah.

Almost a year ago I attended a very enjoyable cake decorating course at Basheera Fakier's Create-a-cake class and although I barely have time to spoil my family with this newly acquired "caking" skill, I do feel confident that I can present an impressive cake or 2 and the impressive choc mousse cake I made at the class that day was used as a centre piece at the Vision Childcare Eat and Treat Fundraiser that evening. Now that's a Feel Good moment right? Alhumdulilah.

Next, I will attempt a sewing course and I cannot wait to share my experience.

Please keep the faith, stay strong, keep trying no matter what and if you feel you cannot do it, Reach out and Ask for help.

Sightseeing Saturdays

Who would have thought making my bed with the help of my husband would leave me with something so profound!

Having been Blessed with domestic help for most of my married life, making the bed was not something I would normally do and probably took for granted. Whilst shaking the sheets and exchanging sweet nothing's with my hubby, it suddenly occurred to me that a day will come that one of us will no longer be in the bed. The thought did not scare me, but instead reminded me of our ultimate destination and that life on earth is but temporary.

It was also a reminder that life is short, do not take anyone for granted, especially the ones you love and love you in return! Thank the Almighty Allah swt everyday. Shukr Allah!

Saturdays are normally "time out from each other day" as we also work together, so on saturday I was pleasantly surprised when my husband said he is taking me for lunch to Hout Bay! That was the same day the boat with tourists overturned in Hout Bay, and yet ANOTHER reminder that life is short!

I decided to do a Sightseeing Saturdays blogpost and share the journey with you all, hopefully it will inspire you to enjoy the breeze, the sunshine, the rain, the air and most importantly Almighty Allah's countless blessings!  Fi Amanillah....
